As a fish biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, I am part of the Native Species Program at the Lower Great Lakes Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office. Our current studies focus on Lake Sturgeon, Lake Trout and Cisco in the Niagara River, Lake Ontario, and Lake Erie. We use a combination of traditional fisheries techniques and radio, acoustic and satellite telemetry to describe the population status and space use. We also map the substrate, bathymetry and water flow of lakes and rivers using sidescan, multibeam, and Doppler sonar technologies.
