During my undergraduate research project, in conjunction with the US Forest Service, in the Sawtooth Mountain Range of central Idaho, I measured abundances of emerging mountain pine beetles. As part of a larger project to predict beetle population redistribution in response to beetle and tree chemical cues, I compared direct and indirect methods of parameterizing a local projection of a partial differential equation model (Biesinger et al., 2000).
